Legal Requirements for Marrying in Australia

•  The law requires that you sign and lodge with me the Notice of Intended Marriage before you are legally able to marry. This must be submitted to me a minimum of one calendar month and one day before the wedding or 18 months prior.

•  The legal marrying age in Australia is 18.

•  You must provide proof of age and identity in the form of a birth certificate in English. If born outside Australia you can provide a passport or birth certificate from your country of birth.

•  If either of you have been married before, you must produce your Divorce Decree Absolute paper. If either of your spouses is deceased, you need to produce the Death Certificate.

•  You must have two witnesses over the age of 18 on your wedding day.
